ATTENTION TOWNSHIP RESIDENTS!!!
Governor
Corzine’s proposal to charge rural communities for NJ State Police coverage
could increase Upper Deerfield Township property taxes by 8.25 cents per hundred
in 2009! Let the Governor and legislators know your opposition to this
proposal as soon as possible and express your strong opposition. Mailing
addresses, e-mail addresses and telephone numbers are below. If enough
taxpayers contact their legislators and Governor expressing their strong
opposition, we have a chance to make a difference and stop these local property
tax increases from occurring in 2009!
The Township Committee can not do this alone – We
need your support!

Dear Governor Corzine
I am writing to you to express my strong opposition to the State’s plans to
charge rural communities for State Police coverage. These proposals
completely contradict the State’s position to reduce property taxes. This
proposal is estimated to increase my municipal property taxes by 8.25 cents per
hundred. A State budget reduction is not property tax relief when the very
appropriations that are cut are those intended to offset property taxes.
If the State financial experts cannot reduce the 30 billion dollar budget by
twelve million dollars, then officials should consider increasing surcharges on
tickets issued by the State Police. This will raise new revenue to support State
Police service in lieu of the Governor’s plan to require rural municipalities to
increase local property taxes to pay for this service. The State Police
issue needs to be resolved through cutting State expenditures or increasing
surcharges on fines instead of relying on regressive property taxes that impact
those taxpayers that can least afford it!
Respectfully yours,
